AMI MATHEMATICS ACTIVITIES
The moment we hear the Mathematics,we close our mind and most of us would say that we do not like Mathematics or that we do not understand it.The most common view is that it is a difficult subject an only people who are extremely intelligent can understand and the other point of view is that it is not meant for girls, another says that students of art do not need to study it.All these are misconception as mathematics is present all around that in our day to day life example. In the making of envelop or paper bags, crossing the roads, shopping etc.Everything has some mathematics involve in it.There is evidence of Mathematics in nature as well. The rotation of earth, Changing of time,The symmetric of the wing of butterfly etc.Mathematics cannot be absorbed by the child like language. It requires preparation. So "Experience Activities" are necessary in order to make intelligent expand an acquire greater understanding.
First group of ACTIVITIES
1) Number Rods: First we give the "quantity" for the child because the child has to experience the quantities of each numbers. Here we have used two colours because to show that each number is represented by a single object............one- only red, Two- red and blue
2) Sandpaper Cyphers : Second we give the symbols for the numbers he already knows.
3)Number Cards and Rods: Now we are introducing sequence of the Symbols
4) Spindle Box: Now we are going to introduce ZERO. There is a compartment for zero also....but child want to know that zero is nothing....
5) THE CARDS AND COUNTERS: To indicate odd and even numbers.
